Listvyanka is an excellent destination for a first brief encounter with Lake Baikal. It is just 1 hour away from Irkutsk. At the Baikal Museum and Aquarium, you can see freshwater seals called “nerpa”, sturgeon and omul as well as a relief map of Baikal. Atop Chersky Rock, you can admire the delta of the Angara River and the magical blue tints of the lake surrounded by mountains. Listvyanka village is the departure point for boat excursions towards the Circumbaikal railroad as well as kayaking, horse-riding, hiking and more.
Take off from Moscow for Irkutsk in the evening. Flight time: 5h30.
Morning arrival in Irkutsk ( +5 hours time difference with Moscow). Your English-speaking guide will meet you at the airport. Transfer to a cafe in town for breakfast. Tour of the town in a private vehicle (3 hours). Transfer to Listvyanka, a village located 70 km away on the shore of Lake Baikal. The roads follows the Angara River through the taiga and villages. Settle in at the hotel. Free afternoon to rest recover from the night flight and/or to visit the village and its fish market (no guide). Dinner and night in Listvyanka.
Meet your English-speaking guide at the hotel. Transfer to the Limnological Museum of Baikal to learn about the local landscape, flora and fauna. Then take a ski lift to the top of Chersky Rock (altitude: 728 m) where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Angara River and Lake Baikal. Lunch in a cafe that serves local specialities. Transfer and visit of the Taltsy Wooden Architecture Museum, located 20 km from Listvyanka on the Angara River. Return to Listvyanka. Dinner and night at the hotel.

Isolated by the taiga, and with an excellent beach of smooth stones, Bolshie Koty is a fantastic getaway for calm and relaxation - more so than Listvyanka, a very popular tourist destination.
