Across the ice from Onego to Kizhi

Find out more

From early February to the end of March, Lake Onega is covered in a solid layer of ice – perfect terrain for a snowmobile expedition across to Kizhi Island and the most famous wooden cathedrals of Russia.

Night in a guest house on the neighbouring island. Owner Piotr will serve you a meal of freshly caught fish and local foods picked in the forest. Experience the crossing of a glacial plain to discover northern architecture and meet the locals in a traditional setting of extreme temperature fluctuations: -20°C outside and up to +90°C inside the steamy Russian banya. This is truly the most authentic way to discover and experience Russia.
