Leave Petrozavodsk by airboat (1h) over Lake Onego and spend four hours on Kizhi Island, a natural reserve with a protected historical site. The island is home to a stunning display of wooden architectural mastery.
23h20: Departure from Saint Petersburg (Ladozhsky Station) to Petrozavodsk by night train.
07h00: Arrive in Petrozavodsk. Your guide will meet you at the train with a sign “Artel Troika”. Breakfast at a local cafe, followed by a visit of the town on foot and a walk along the quay on the Onego Lake (1h).
A airboat will transport you to Kizhi (1h15) where you will meet with the English-speaking museum guide. Together, you will visit the pogost (2h15): exterior of the Church of the Transfiguration, interior of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, bell tower, typical peasant home and the Church of the Resurrection of Lazarus.
Lunch (picnic). Free time to discover the island with your guide. Transfer by airboat to Petrozavodsk (1h15). Dinner (not included). Transfer to the train station.
18h00: Departure to Saint Petersburg by express train.
22h55: Arrival in Saint Petersburg (Moscow Station).
The Church of the Transfiguration is undergoing historical renovation works. The wooden elements to be replaced are produced in the workshop.
You can visit the island on a horse-drawn carriage from the workshop in the pogost. Each carriage can accommodate up to 5 people.
