From early February to the end of March, Lake Onega is covered in a solid layer of ice – perfect terrain for a snowmobile expedition across to Kizhi Island and the most famous wooden cathedrals of Russia.
Night in a guest house on the neighbouring island. Owner Piotr will serve you a meal of freshly caught fish and local foods picked in the forest. Experience the crossing of a glacial plain to discover northern architecture and meet the locals in a traditional setting of extreme temperature fluctuations: -20°C outside and up to +90°C inside the steamy Russian banya. This is truly the most authentic way to discover and experience Russia.
Arrive in Petrozavodsk. Your chauffeur will be waiting for you with a sign “Artel Troika”. Transfer to a cafe for breakfast. Safety briefing and snowmobile lesson. Selection of equipment and clothing. Snowmobile excursion along the following route: Petrozavodsk - Ivanovski Islands - Chardonski Islands - Cape Chazhnavolok - Siar Island - Sosnoviets Island - Yuzhni Dvor village (visit the wooden church of Saint Nicholas from the XVII–XVIII century). Break for lunch (hot tea and sandwiches). Ride to Yuzhni Dvor village - Litovtsi village - Bolshoi Klimetski Island (circuit of about 100 km). Night in a guest house with Russian banya and dinner.
Breakfast at the guest house and transfer to Kizhi Island. Visit of the pogost with an English-speaking guide. Transfer by snowmobile to the Kizhi archipelago: islands of Bolshoi Lelekovski, Kamen Monak and Ivanovski. Return to Petrozavodsk (circuit of about 100 km). Break for lunch (hot tea and sandwiches). Arrive to Petrozavodsk. Dinner. Transfer to the train station. Departure to Moscow.
